GEORGE TOWN – “I only thought of the team and the fans,” said Mohamad Faizat Ghazli who scored the only goal for Penang which has helped his team to remain competing in the Super League next season.
The only goal of the last match of this season’s Super League between two teams at the bottom of the league standings at Bandaraya Stadium, here last night also allowed Penang to beat Terengganu.
Mohamad Faizat, 21, said he did not expect at all that he could score the only goal for his team in the 89th minute.
“I missed several golden opportunities to score but I did not lose hope. All of us played with the hope to remain in the Super League, just for the fans,” he said.
Penang head coach Nenad Bacina said although the team had previously suffered several defeats, his players bounced back with their spirits soar high to ensure that the team remain in the league.
“I am proud of them and tonight’s game proved that they had a strong desire to remain in the Super League,” he said.
Bacina also rejected the notion that import player, Ranti Martins did not play well in the match saying that all of his players had played well.
Terengganu coach Mustaffa Kamal Abd Wahab said he accepted the defeat which saw his team relegated to the Premier League next season.
“To be honest, I was a bit disappointed but I’m sure the players have played well tonight. Many experienced players could not play due to injuries and I decided to field young players,” he said.
Mustafa also said that he would let the management team to decide his position for next season.
“I will accept whatever decision with an open heart,” he added. – BERNAMA
