KUALA LUMPUR: There is still room for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to apologise to UMNO for their excessive attitude, but it must be done with sincerity.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said it was up to the deputy president and vice-president to make an apology to re-unite the UMNO top leadership as urged by the party members.
Although they could apologise to the party for their actions, the investigations would still be carried out by the UMNO special committee, he told a joint press conference with another vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on the second day of the 2015 UMNO General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre, here, today.
Hishammuddin said that even though both of them had criticised party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, they still showed up at the assembly and sat together with the other leaders on stage.
“They did not appear as awkward as predicted by reporters before this,” said Hishammuddin.
Hishammuddin, who is also the defence minister, said during today’s Friday prayers, he had prayed that Muhyiddin and Mohd Shafie would apologise over their actions.
On the delegates’ wish to see Najib and Muhyiddin hugging each other on stage on the last day of the assembly, to make peace, Ahmad Zahid said he understood the wish.
It was not measured by physical action but the sincerity to do so, he said.
