When making the keynote speech, UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Penang delegate Datuk Mohd Zaid Mohd Said said the Chinese made a lot of money and gained power by being involved in illicit economic activities such as illegal gambling, prostitution and entertainment outlets.
He said such activities flourished because the Malays are mild-mannered and the relevant authorities are turning a blind eye to them.
“If we go all out to take action against their illegal businesses, I believe the Chinese will be afraid and respect the Malays,” he said while debating on party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s policy speech at the Umno general assembly today.
The Permatang Pauh division leader said the reason why Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno failed to win in the northern state in two consecutive general elections was due to lack of support from the Chinese.
“Umno has controlled two-thirds of Penang,” he said, referring to the 10 out of 15 seats the party contested at state-level.
“However, no matter how we do it, BN will not win because the Chinese do not support BN.”
Meanwhile, Perak delegate Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan told party leaders to give up wooing the Chinese community as they will continue to reject BN.
Instead, the priority should be to get more Malay support.
“After the general election, our leaders go out looking for support from influential Chinese. But wooing the Chinese is akin to pouring water on a desert… no matter how much you pour, it will just be absorbed into the ground.
“The support from the Chinese will not increase. Umno has to return to its own race.”MYNEWSHUB
