Police have seized heroin worth RM50,000 in what is the largest heroin bust in Terengganu this year.
State police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said officers from the state narcotics division stopped two men at a petrol station in Kampung Bukit Tunggal here on Tuesday and found the drugs wrapped in the car boot.
“We found 100 small bottles containing white powder belived to be heroin. The bottles were kept in a paper bag.
“The two men, aged 37 and 24, also tested positive for methamphetamine and opiate. Both have a history of drug-related offences.
“The drugs weigh a total of 568g, which could fetch about RM50,000 in the market,†Jamshah said.
With the success achieved in the raid, he said the state police had crippled a syndicate operating around the Kuala Terengganu and Marang districts.
“We believe the drugs were brought in from a neighbouring country. The two suspects were possibly waiting to pass the drugs to a downliner,†he said.
He added that police had been shadowing the suspects for over a month.
The two men are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.MYNEWSHUB
