KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu saw a slight increase in the number of flood evacuees as at 8 am today, with 600 people from 169 families compared to 503 from 149 families at 10 pm yesterday.
The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the evacuees were being housed at 11 relief centres in six districts, namely Besut, Marang, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun and Setiu.
Marang had the largest number of evacuees, 368 from 108 families at four centres, following by Setiu with 65 people from 14 families at two centres and Kuala Nerus with 54 people from 14 families at two centres.
Dungun had 47 people from 12 families at one centre; Kuala Terengganu, 45 people from 15 families at one centre and Besut, 21 people from six families at one centre.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that at 9 am, the level of Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap, Setiu, was 21.44 metres, higher than the warning point of 20.75 metres while the level of Sungai Chalok in Setiu was 8.10 metres, above the warning level of 7.70 metres.
The level of Sungai Marang at the Pengkalan Berangan Bridge was 2.39 metres, above the warning point of 2.30 metres.
