KUALA TERENGGANU – The Monsoon Cup, organised by the Terengganu state government, will be open to participants from other states.
State Secretary Datuk Osman Muda said the championship was organised at the local level for the first time this year, and the state government wanted it to be more interesting by increasing the participations.
“The area around Pulau Duyong has numerous facilities for sailing. We will improve and spruce up the existing facilities. The Monsoon Cup Championship has been revived, although at state level.
“It is essential to encourage the public especially youths keen in sailing, regata, canoe and kayak.
“The sport has also turned out athletes who represented Terengganu in Malaysia Sports,” he told a media conference after the closing of the championship at Duyong Marina & Resort here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, in the championship this time, 16 teams had taken part involving 250 participants who were divided into the Monsoon Cup and Tourism Cup categories.
The Terengganu Sports Council 2 (MSNT 2) emerged champions and received a challenge trophy and RM6,000 in cash, Terengganu Sukma Team was second (RM4,000) and third, MSNT 1 (RM3,000) in the Monsoon Cup category.
The Terengganu Education Department garnered first place (challenge trophy and cash RM5,000), TESDEc was second (RM2,000) and MSNT 1 was third (RM1,000) in the Tourism Cup category.
