BALI – Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman has been told to close ranks in the state’s UMNO leadership as a move to strengthen back Barisan Nasional (BN) in Terengganu.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he had met Ahmad Razif two days ago and ordered him to make careful political calculations.
“In political mathematics, minus one could make us lose all, so I ordered him (Ahmad Razif) to make his political calculations carefully and close ranks at the leadership,” he told reporters, here, today.
The political crisis in Terengganu was said to be tense when former menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who is also Kijal assemblyman, could face the UMNO Disciplinary Board for acting against the state BN leadership including moving a motion of no-confidence against his successor.
The position of the state government would be shaky if Ahmad was sacked from UMNO as BN has 17 seats in the state legislative assembly while PAS has 14 and PKR, one seat.
Zahid said UMNO did not want the party’s internal factor to lead to the fall of BN in the state.
“We had experienced it before and do not want to repeat the mistake of losing power in Terengganu,” he said.
Zahid said all parties should place the interest of BN in the state assembly above their personal interest, and he was confident that the former menteri besar (Ahmad) had the magnanimity to save UMNO in Terengganu. – BERNAMA
