KUALA TERENGGANU – The number of flood victims at two districts, Kuala Terengganu and Marang remains at 353 as of Sunday night.
According to the Terengganu National Security Council portal, three relief centres are still open as of 9 am today.
Two of the centres, in Kuala Terengganu are Sekolah Kebangsaan Kompleks Gong Badak, with 267 people, and SK Tok Jiring (60). The other centre, in Marang is at SK Pasir Puteh (17).
Meanwhile in Melaka, 27 people from seven families in Batu Berendam here were moved to Dewan Pangsapuri Rakyat Sungai Putat at midnight when flood waters inundated their homes.
Melaka National Security Council assistant secretary Jafri Mohamed said the water had receded by this morning and the victims were allowed to return home at 8 am.
He said more than 20 houses were affected by the incident believed to have been due to extraordinarily heavy rainfall which started at 7 pm and caused the Sungai Putat catchment pond to overflow.
“Although the flood has subsided, the Batu Hampar monitoring station in Sungai Putat shows that the water is still at warning level so we advise the public to be alert,” he told Bernama on Monday. – BERNAMA
