KUALA LUMPUR – The inclusion of the theatre “Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck” in the MyFest 2015 programme (Malaysian Festival Year 2015) is capable of luring audiences and tourists from neighbouring countries especially Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei to Malaysia.
Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the inclusion of the show was indeed timely to promote the country through arts.
“Its producer, Siti Rogayah Attan, is very skilled and her show deserves to be included in the programme as it is capable of attracting not only local audiences, but also those overseas, in line with the government’s target to draw 29.4 million tourists and gain a revenue of RM89 billion this year.”
She said this after launching the theatre, which was adapted from the novel written by the late Abdul Malik Karim Amarullah, or better-known as Hamka, at the Istana Budaya here today.
The cast for the show includes young talents like Amar Baharin, Nabila Huda Suhaimi, Amyra Rusly, Syarul Ridzwan and Karl Shafek.
The show will be staged at Panggung Sari Istana Budaya from Oct 12 to 18.
