KANGAR – The establishment of the Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (TEKUN) has benefitted many entrepreneurs and petty traders, especially the young people, to expand their business.
One of them is Fadaah Natrah Amir, 27, who received loan of RM10,000 from TEKUN last year, providing a game changer for her frozen food business which she started in 2011.
She carried out the business at her family home in Taman Sri Medan here.
“I did not have much fund the and was able to operate the business on a small scale, but after getting married last year, my husband suggested we apply for TEKUN loan and now, he quit his job at a perfume company to help me out full time.
“I used the TEKUN loan buy equipment such as oven and refrigerator to store the frozen food I made. It’s been a year now, and Alhamdulillah, our business is growing,” she said when met by Bernama here, today.
Fadaah Natrah said she was able to earn about RM3,000 a month, and had never missed her loan repayment of RM225 per month.
She is now planning to take another loan to expand her business.
Another TEKUN borrower, Nur Izzati Kemat, 23, from Arau, said she took a loan of RM10,000 in 2015 to expand her restaurant business in Medan Selera Arau.
“The loan helps me resolve problem of getting the rolling capital for my restaurant business. Now, I’m not only able to provide my customers with more variety of dishers, but a better place to eat as I also did some renovation with the shop.
“Making the loan repayment is easy as the TEKUN officers come to collect the payment week and we can also negotiate on the loan repayment if we are facing financial constraints, ” she said.
Meanwhile, Perlis TEKUN manager Azri Adin said 328 people had obtained loans, totalling RM3.923 million since January until June this year.
He said TEKUN provided a variety of easy financing schemes ranging from RM1,000 to RM10,000 for first-timers, and subsequently up to RM20,000, as well as up to RM100,000 for the contract financing scheme.
“We are targeting those under-40 who are keen to venture into entrepreneurship and business in line with the government’s call to establish more independent entrepreneurs,” he added.
According to Azri, TEKUN Perlis has provided loans amounting to RM80.2 million to 6,849 people from 1998 until this year. – BERNAMA
