TAWAU – A teenager and an infant died after the four-wheel-drive vehicle they were travelling in together with six other passengers collided with a Perodua Alza at KM47 Jalan Kunak-Semporna, near here yesterday.
Semporna OCPD, Supt Peter Umbuas said that in the incident at about 4.30pm, Witri Baktiar, 17, died on the spot while eight-month-old Fatiha Aziah was confirmed dead at the Kunak Hospital.
“Initial investigation revealed that the incident occurred after the Perodua Alza, which was travelling from the direction of Semporna towards Kunak, entered the right lane and hit the right side of the four-wheel-drive which was coming from the opposite direction.
“After the collision, the four-wheel-drive vehicle skidded before overturning which resulted in both the deceased to be thrown out of the vehicle,” he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.
He said another two passengers of the four-wheel-drive were seriously injured and were being treated at the Kunak Hospital.
However, he said, both drivers and three other passengers of the four-wheel-drive vehicle suffered only light injuries and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
