KUALA LUMPUR – Former 2010 world championship men’s doubles runner-up, Koo Kien Kiat/Tan Boon Heong were knocked out from 2015 French Open Super Series Badminton Tournament after losing in the second round of the tournament held at Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris, France.
The pair who clinched two back-to back titles, the Sri Lanka International Challenge in June and Russian International Challenge in July since making a return to the international arena in May, won the first set.
But they eventually faltered in the next two sets; losing 21-14, 19-21, 16-21 to fifth seed, Hiroyuki Endo/Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan, late Thursday (early Friday Malaysian time).
Also shown the exit are national top women’s singles shuttler, Tee Jing Yi who went down 17-21, 21-8, 21-14 to the Indonesian young player, Maria Febe Kusumastuti in the second round match, Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org reported.
Both defeats saw national badminton ace, Datuk Lee Chong Wei remained as Malaysia’s sole representatives in the US$275,000 (RM1,185 million) tournament.
Chong Wei, who already bagged back-to-back titles – the United States Open and Canada Open held in June – will take on Japanese veteran shuttler, Sho Sasaki in the quarterfinals match, late Friday.
