SHAH ALAM – Team Europe put on another strong challenge in the final round of the 2016 EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-Hicom and comfortably outclassed Team Asia at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, here today.
The team led by Darren Clarke added nine-and-a-half points from the singles event today to clincj 18-and-a-half points overall to win the competition by 13 points.
Team Asia managed to add two-and-a-half points for a three-day total of five-and-a-half points.
As for the winning team, Team Europe members will share the prize money of US$3.6 million (RM15.64 million) while Team Asia, led by Jeev Milkha Singh, as the runners-up will share US$1.2 million (about RM5.21 million).
Clarke received the competition trophy from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Professional Golf Malaysia (PGM) chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid.
At the inaugural competition held in 2014, Team Europe and Team Asia ended the match with a 10-10 draw.
The biennial Ryder Cup-styled event is scheduled to be held once again in 2018. – BERNAMA
