KANGAR – Work to cut down more 10,000 teak trees along the roads in Perlis have begun last week for the safety of motorists in the state.
State Natural Resources and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Mat Rawi Kassim said the government was relieved when the tree felling began as it had been delayed for two years.
“The government takes a serious view of the people’s concerns as the trees are not suitable to be planted along the road as they could endanger the people.
“The first phase of felling involved 2,700 trees in Jalan Santan and Jalan Guar Jentik,” he told Bernama today. – BERNAMA
