in Latest

GUA MUSANG – A block of teachers quarters at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Permai, Pos Pasik here was damaged after an ‘attack’ by a herd of ten wild elephants which came to the area foraging for food early today.

In the incident at about 4 pm, the 10-door teachers quarters were vacant as all the teachers were on their way back to the school after spending Hari Raya Aidilfitri in their respective villages.

Penghulu of Pos Pasik, Hashim Harun said the herd was seen near the teachers quarters and villagers’ houses for three hours before moving to the nearby forest at 6 am.

“Following the incident, the teachers quarters, especially the window were damaged by the elephants while hundreds of banana trees in the surrounding area were also destroyed,” he told reporters here today.

He said some Orang Asli residents upon realising the presence of the herd of wild elephants quickly fled their houses and only returned at 7 am after the animals went back to the nearby forest.

“This is the first time a herd of elephants invaded the teachers quarters and previously they only damaged the crops of the residents, he said.

Security guard at the school, Jali Hashim, 40, said he was aware of the incident at 8 am when he saw the quarters in topsy turvy condition. – BERNAMA
