in Crimes/Top News

KUANTAN – For a tuition teacher, it was not only a case of love’s labour lost but she also almost became a victim of a sting operation to the tune of RM4,800.

Fortunately, the 25-year-old smelt a rat.

The so-called English boyfriend from the United Kingdom, having previously whispered sweet nothings into the ear of the unsuspecting woman, had contacted her on Jan 15 and requested she “settle the fees” for a parcel reportedly sent by him.

According to the man who identified himself as ‘Wilson Yu’, the parcel contained several items, including a Furla handbag, an iPhone 7, a Chanel necklace and British Pound 16,000 (RM87,707) as presents for her.

“We have known each other since Dec 26 via phone calls and WhatsApp messages. He introduced himself as Wilson Yu from England.

“We had since been sending text messages to one another until last Monday, when he said he had sent a parcel to me. He also gave me a tracking number but I refused to accept it.

“At that juncture, the man got angry and did not contact me again,” she told reporters after lodging a report at the Kuantan police headquarters here today.

The woman also claimed that she received a call early this morning from a man who introduced himself as a customs agent.

“The man demanded that I pay RM4,800 in order for me to claim the parcel. However, when I refused to claim it, he scolded me and hung up,” she said. – BERNAMA
