KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) must take stern action against foreign fishermen who fish in Malaysian territorial waters.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the agency should not compromise but seize the foreign fishing boats which encroached Malaysian waters.
“They (foreign fishermen) will fish in Malaysian waters but when the MMEA team arrives, they will destroy damage their fishing nets and act as if they are sightseeing in the area.
“As such, MMEA personnel must bring the oats to the jetty for inspection,” he told reporters after visiting Petaling Street together with Civil Defence Force (APM) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) staff, here tonight.
Shahidan said APM members would be deployed at several major tourist areas in the capital city to assist the authorities such as the police and DBKL.
“The presence of security personnel in these area will help reduce crime. Should there be any untoward incident the APM members are there to help.” – BERNAMA
