NEW YORK – Pop superstar Taylor Swift has donated to a US charity that supports victims of sexual assault after winning a groping lawsuit against a former radio DJ, the organisation confirmed on Thursday (Aug 17).

Joyful Heart Foundation, a national organisation working to transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, declined to disclose the amount of the donation.

“I hope that Taylor’s very public experience – and her decision to speak out – not only helps empower other victims to speak up and take action, but offers them solidarity,” said its founder, the actress Mariska Hargitay.

“I’m honoured by her dedication and commitment to these issues, and I’m deeply grateful for her support of the Joyful Heart Foundation.”

The 27-year-old Bad Blood singer won her sexual assault lawsuit on Monday.

A jury in a Denver federal court deliberated for four hours before allowing her complaint that David Mueller had fondled her buttocks during a photo op in 2013.

Swift, who was awarded a nominal US$1 (S$1.36) in damages, promised to donate to charities in the wake of her ordeal. According to Forbes she is worth US$44 million.

“I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this,” the diva said in a statement thanking the court.

“My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organisations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”

Hargitay starred as a police detective on Law And Order: Special Victims Unit, a drama about New York professionals who investigate sexually related crimes.

MUSIC superstar Taylor Swift told a US court Thursday of her shock as she realized she was being groped during a photo opportunity in Colorado, as she faced the former DJ she accuses of assaulting her.

Swift, 27, said there was no doubt in her mind the radio personality she was being photographed with ahead of a Denver concert in 2013 reached under her skirt and fondled her buttocks.

“It was a definite grab … a very long grab,” Swift testified in a Denver federal court. She declined to speculate how long the incident lasted.

“He stayed latched on to my bare ass cheek as I lurched away from him. (His hand) didn’t let go,” she told the jury.

Swift was called as a witness by the attorney representing David Mueller, the former Denver radio host accused of groping her during the photo session.

“It was a very shocking thing. I had never dealt with something like this before,” Swift said.

Mueller, 55, is suing Swift, alleging she and her team slandered him by telling his employer about the incident, resulting in his firing.

She is counter-suing, alleging she was sexually assaulted.

“Someone could have concluded it appeared she was trying to get away from me,” Mueller testified Wednesday when shown a picture taken during the alleged assault.

‘3-D recollection’

The photo of Swift, Mueller and his girlfriend shows the morning show host on radio station KYGO with his hand behind the singer’s rear end.

Mueller claims his knuckles may have touched her ribs, well above where his arm is shown. But he admitted he did not know for sure where his hand was because he was concentrating on the photographer.

Swift, who was 23 at the time, did not file a police report. Her mother, Andrea Swift, testified Wednesday that the singer’s management wanted to keep the matter out of the public eye.

Swift, who wore a short-sleeved floral print dress, was in combative form as she was questioned for around an hour, occasionally rebuking Mueller’s attorney for his line of inquiry.

“I’m not going to allow you or your client to say I am to blame,” she told him at one point.

She also rejected Mueller’s contention that he may have touched her somewhere less inappropriate.

“He did not touch my hand. He did not touch my arm. He did not touch my rib. He touched my bare ass,” Swift said, adding that she had a “3-D recollection” of what had transpired.

Visibly upset

She dismissed attempts to dissuade her from her story and rejected the suggestion that she had continued greeting guests for as long as 30 minutes after the alleged assault, as if nothing had happened.

“This is a fact. This is what happened to me. I knew when it happened,” she said.

Swift’s assistants testified in depositions that as soon as the photo session ended, the singer told everyone in the room about the incident. They described her as being uncomfortable and visibly upset.

Robert Call, Mueller’s boss at KYGO and the man who fired him, later told the court the photo indicated to him that Mueller’s hand was in an inappropriate place and that this was a large reason for his dismissal.

“I have seen hundreds of meet-and-greet photos,” Call said, adding he had never seen any with hands positioned like Mueller’s.

Call also testified that Mueller had changed his story, first denying the incident occurred at all and then conceding that it might have taken place, but that any contact would have been “accidental or incidental.”

The station’s program manager Herschel Coomer – known in the industry by the pseudonym Eddie Haskell – testified that Mueller was adamant he hadn’t done anything improper.

“We felt he violated the morality clause in his contract,” said Coomer, who was Mueller’s immediate supervisor. — AFP

DENVER – A US radio host denied groping pop singer Taylor Swift and accused her of ruining his career as a civil suit brought by him got underway Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Swift has counter-sued, alleging David “Jackson” Mueller groped her during a photo opportunity at a 2013 concert.

She looked on with her mother at her side in the Denver courtroom as he took the stand to testify.

“It cost me my career … the thing I love the most,” Mueller said. “It’s despicable, the thing they’ve accused me of”.

Mueller did not sue his station KYGO or its parent company Lincoln Financial Media Co. of Colorado, after he was fired June 4, 2013.

Instead, he is seeking US$3 million (RM12 million) in lost wages and future income from Swift, alleging her complaint led to his unfair dismissal.

He told the court he had sent out two dozen resumes and audio samples, but received no job offers since being terminated. He had a contract with KYGO for US$150,000 a year.

Mueller’s attorney Gabriel McFarland told the eight member jury it was a “he said, she said situation”, and that Swift mistook her client for someone else.

‘It’s an assault ‘

The singer, who alleges he lifted her skirt and fondled her buttocks during the photo op, has said she knew who had assaulted her.

Her lawyer, Doug Baldridge, told the jury that four members of Swift’s team were in the room where the photo was taken, and knew immediately something wrong had happened.

“It’s not inappropriate touching. It’s an assault,” Baldridge said.

He said Mueller, who was 51 at the time of the incident, has changed his story seven times since it occurred. “This side has never changed its position”, he said.

According to Baldridge, Mueller had destroyed five laptops or cell phones that may have contained recorded evidence of his meeting with KYGO executives, possibly including other references to the DJ’s behavior that the radio station was not happy with.

Jurors hearing the case were picked earlier in the day from a pool of 16 prospective jurors.

Swift and her mother, Andrea Swift, watched while they were asked if they were familiar with the circumstances of the civil case.

They were questioned specifically about their familiarity with either Swift or Mueller and whether they considered themselves to be fans of their work.

Some fans were in the courtroom, but the celebrity trial has so far not drawn big crowds, and many of the 32 seats reserved for the public were empty.

“I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. This is a huge event and it’s exciting to be a part of it,” said Jacquelyn Evans, 32, an unemployed food safety specialist.

Arthur Lewis, also 32 and a real estate agent, said he’s “a big supporter of Taylor Swift and just wanted to check it out”.

Swift, who appeared in court wearing a dark suit over a bluish-green blouse, has said she will donate any damages awarded in her suit to charities that fight sexual assault on women. — AFP

Remain calm music fans, but Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik just delivered one sweet holiday present.

On Thursday evening, the “Shake It Off” singer revealed some big news to her followers. As it turns out, Taylor has been working on a new song with Zayn for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.

Titled “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever,” the new song is currently available on iTunes. And for those without access, Taylor delivered a sneak peek in a separate Instagram post.

Zayn would also help share the good news with a picture of himself holding one of Taylor’s cats with the caption, “#idontwannaliveforever.”

As soon as the news broke, fans of all ages took to the Internet to express their excitement. Taylor’s close friend Lena Dunham also revealed some behind-the-scenes details about the track.

Zayn’s girlfriend Gigi Hadid also confirmed she was a proud owner of the new single as she shared a photo on her Twitter account.

While Taylor hasn’t released any of her own songs since the launch of her hugely successful album 1989 in October 2014, the singer’s songwriting skills were recently showcased on Little Big Town’s new single “Better Man.”

For those intrigued by the Fifty Shades Darker movie, you likely already know that Miguel is also expected to be on the film’s soundtrack.

In a trailer released earlier in the week, the singer covered “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé as Hollywood stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan turned up the heat in more ways than one.

And if the last film was any indication, if you’re featured on the soundtrack, your song is bound to be a hit. Does Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” ring a bell?

THE chart-topping singer Taylor Swift has reportedly turned to the rap star Drake as she is keen to explore a new sound on her upcoming album, having previously enjoyed success working with Kendrick Lamar.

A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Taylor is always looking at ways to grow as an artist and really wants to try something different and unexpected for the next album.

“She’s not afraid of experimenting so is working with a lot of different faces to see if she suits a new sound. The remix of her song ‘Bad Blood’ had a less pop vibe especially once Kendrick Lamar featured on it and was a big hit, so she thinks her fans will like her going in this direction.

“THE Taylor Swift Experience,” a retrospective about the American pop singer, is heading to the Big Apple’s Seaport District from Nov 18, 2016, to Feb 19, 2107.

The exhibition is The Grammy Museum’s most popular to date, paying tribute to an artist who has no less than 10 Grammy Awards to her name. The show offers an in-depth look at the artist as a singer, musician, songwriter and producer through a collection of personal effects.

The exhibit features the Shake it Off singer’s early childhood reading books, as well as personal family photos, for example. Fans who didn’t catch the singer’s concerts during her “Red Tour” and “1989 World Tour” can check out her iconic stage outfits, as well as outfits from music videos like Mean and Bad Blood. The show also features a never-before-seen pre-Met Gala Louis Vuitton gown worn by the artist. Fans from the early days will recognise the banjo used during her performance at the 54th Grammy Awards ceremony in 2012 and the piano from her “1989 World Tour.”

After ending its New York stint February 19, 2017, “The Taylor Swift Experience” will head to the Grammy Museum Mississippi in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles celebrates the cultural history of music in all its forms, from the creative process to recording and production, as well as through the Grammy Awards, the USA’s most prestigious music awards.

Taylor Swift’s now iconic 1989 album sold more than one million copies in its first week of release in 2014. The ten-time Grammy winner is also the only female artist have won the Grammy Award for “Album of the Year” twice.

“The Taylor Swift Experience” runs Novr 18, 2016, to Feb 19, 2017, at 19 Fulton Street in the Seaport District, Lower Manhattan, New York.

Taylor Swift Gives Detailed Account of Alleged Groping Incident in Deposition for Lawsuit Against Radio DJ
Raphael Chestang,Entertainment Tonight Wed, Nov 2 3:20 PM PDT Comments Like Reblog on Tumblr Share Tweet Email

In a newly released deposition, Taylor Swift goes into explicit detail concerning the horror she felt when she claims a radio DJ groped her at a 2013 public appearance.

“A strange man’s hand just lifted up my skirt,” Swift says in the just-released testimony.

The man in question is DJ David “Jackson” Mueller. Swift filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Mueller in October 2015.

The filing was a countersuit in response to Mueller’s defamation lawsuit brought against Swift in September 2015, in which he claimed the singer falsely accused him of inappropriately grabbing her.

Mueller denied the allegations but was fired from his job as a radio host and DJ two days after the alleged incident.

According to Swift, the alleged incident took place during a photo op backstage at a Denver concert. Swift says she was taking a picture with the DJ and his female companion when, Swift alleges, he grabbed her underneath her clothing.

Last month, a Colorado judge ruled to keep the photo sealed from the public until the case goes to trial.

“It’s impossible for me to definitively answer whether the moment captured on the photo is the moment directly before he grabbed my a**, right when he grabbed onto my a** cheek, or the moment when I was obviously squirming to the side because I was uncomfortable,” Swift says in the deposition.

In the original court papers, Swift said that Mueller’s alleged actions “surprised, upset, offended, and alarmed” her, adding that she then had to go out and put on a show in front of 13,000 people. In the deposition, Swift claims the reason she didn’t confront Mueller at the time was because there were fans in the room.

“I was looking at the floor, and I just wanted him to be gone,” she says.

Mueller has denied that anything inappropriate happened, but did admit it was possible he had touched Swift’s skirt.

“I would say it’s possible that my hand came into contact with her skirt or somewhere behind her,” Mueller said during his deposition. “But as I stated earlier, she was moving my hand; I was moving her hand. I did not think I touched her inappropriately, which is why I did not apologize to her. I would have apologized had I thought I did something inappropriate.”

The “Blank Space” singer has said that if she wins her countersuit, she will donate any money received to a “charitable organization dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard.”

Even though they’ve vacationed in three different continents within just two months of dating, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston are just like any regular couple. In fact, they recently just had their first fight.

According to Us Weekly, Hiddleswift hit yet another relationship milestone — albeit a bad one — when they had an “a major argument” in early August. A source told to the publication that the couple, who started dating after Swift split with Calvin Harris in June, had a blowout over their conflicting schedules.

“They weren’t spending as much time together,” the insider said, explaining that it became tougher and tougher for Hiddleston, 35, to set time for his 26-year-old girlfriend now that he’s started shooting Thor: Ragnarok in Australia.

“There was so much going on so it was hard making their schedules work,” the source added, “and they were upset they couldn’t see each other.”

After their tiff, Hiddleston reportedly flew out to Swift’s Rhode Island compound — the same place where they were first photographed kissing — on August 14 for a two-day stay before returning to work Down Under.

“Tom is busier than her right now, so it’s been hard,” a Swift insider revealed. “They’ve had some schedule issues, but things are otherwise fine. They are making it work.”

Previously, Swift was spotted down in Australia to visit Hiddleston before he began filming the next Thor installment. Currently, the “Bad Blood” singer is enjoying some downtime after wrapping her 85-date world tour in December.

NEW YORK: At the tender age of 26, Taylor Swift is the world’s highest-paid celebrity, pulling in a whopping US$170mil (RM676mil) over the past year, Forbes magazine said Monday.

The pop diva’s take from June 2015 to June 2016 is the highest total of her young career, the magazine said, more than doubling her previous record of $80mil (RM318mil) last year.

She out-earned other famous musicians including Adele, Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna and Madonna.

The “Shake It Off” singer also outpaced rival Katy Perry who last year took in more than $135mil (RM537mil) as opposed to Swift’s $80mil, according to Forbes magazine’s annual list of 100 highest-paid celebrities. It said Swift’s top earnings were largely thanks to her “1989 World Tour” during which she smashed the Rolling Stone’s North American record, grossing $200 million on the continent en route to a quarter of a billion worldwide.

Coming in at number two on the list this year was the boy band One Direction, ($110 million), followed by author James Patterson ($95mil).

British singer Adele came in at number 9 ($80.5mil) while Taylor’s former beau, musician Calvin Harris, also made the cut coming in at number 21 ($63mil).

“The world’s 100 highest-paid celebrities pulled in $5.1bil pretax over the past 12 months, more than the GDP of Belize, Gambia and Bhutan combined,” Forbes said.

Magazine editor Zack O’Malley Greenberg said live entertainment continues to be a major cash draw.

“From soccer games in Spain to concerts in China, fans are willing to shell out to see big names – and this is driving the celebrity economy to ever greater heights,” he said in a statement. – AFP

Tom Hiddleston has finally given his first interview about girlfriend Taylor Swift , and it’s…interesting.

Hiddleswift are on the Gold Coast in Australia while the British actor films Thor: Ragnarok, the latest of the couple’s many, many travels.

As fans know, Tom and Taylor have traveled to Nashville, England, Italy and now Australia all in a month’s time.

They’ve partied at her house in Rhode Island over the Fourth of July, where Hiddleston now famously donned an I Heart T.S. T-shirt and met her entire squad.

For all intents and purposes, this relationship has been in the public eye since they were caught kissing on the beach.

They’ve held hands for the cameras, kissed for the cameras and gave a couple of waves for the cameras.

But when an Australian reporter approached Tom before taking off on a run, he awkwardly dodged and wouldn’t answer the questions.

“How is Taylor enjoying the beautiful Gold Coast?” the reporter asked, getting an uncomfortable and awkward chuckle from The Night Manager star.

Tom stammered for a bit before settling on this answer: “I’m not going to answer that, if it’s all right.”

Tom then scampered off onto his run, but when he finally came back the reporter was still there with more questions. She asked him what they were looking forward to doing while spending time Down Under, and Tom gave her a brush off with “I don’t know.”

Tom did, however, take time to meet with eager fans, take pictures with them and even answer their questions, resulting in tears from many overwhelmed young girls.

The question remains, though, if Hiddleswift is such a public couple, why won’t Tom answer these basic questions?

They’re hardly invasive, as they really only ask if they plan on sightseeing or not. Given their touristy trip to Rome’s Coliseum, that seems like a fair question.
