ALOR SETAR – The Kedah government will replace the old water piping system in stages to avoid leakage which causes water supply disruption in the state, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
He said the old water pipelines would leak because they cannot withstand high water pressure.
“The water pipelines here are old, some are nearly 100 years old, so when the water pressure is high, leakages will happen which cause disruption of water supply to consumers.
“The replacement will be carried out simultaneously with the upgrading projects of the water treatment plants. This is to solve the water problems in the state,” he told reporters here today.
The five water treatment plants are Pelubang, Bukit Selambau (Merbok), Sungai Limau (Baling), Lubuk Buntar Lama and Jenun Baru (Yan and Pendang).
Earlier, Ahmad Bashah handed over tithe contributions from the Management & Science University (MSU) to 1,500 recipients from Alor Setar parliamentary constituency at Seri Mentaloon Hall.
When asked on the action of some opposition parties which tried to take advantage on the water issue, he said they would always find issues even if the state government already had the solution.
“The state government together with Syarikat Air Darulaman (SADA) Sdn Bhd have found the best solution on the issue. All aspects have been taken into account including the upgrading of the piping system and water treatment plants.
“We are also supplying more than 2,000 barrels of water each with the capacity of 900 litres to the people affected by the low water pressure by Aidilfitri to ensure sufficient water supply,” he said.
Ahmad Bashah said SADA officials had been placed in critical areas of water disruption and a 24-hour complaint centre had also been opened. – BERNAMA
ALOR SETAR – Kedah Football Association (KFA) president Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah hopes Nidzam Adzha Yusoff can steer the Red Hawks through the remaining matches.
“So far, we have seen some improvement when Kedah beat Terengganu 1-0 recently. We will monitor to see how well he (Nidzam) performs. If he does well, we may appoint him to fill the vacant post of head coach.
“Nidzam knows the momentum and what needs to be done because he and Cheng Hoe plotted the strategy.
“Furthermore, he has a lot of experience which can be used to improve the performance of the team,” he said after presenting appointment letters to Barakah tuition teachers at Wisma Darul Aman, here today.
The post of Kedah team head coach fell vacant following the resignation of Tan Cheng Hoe on April 1 to take up the post of assistant coach of the national team (Harimau Malaya).

The “Sang Saka Bangsa” flag was handed over to Ahmad Bashah, who is also Kedah UMNO Liaison Committee chairman, by Perlis UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim who led some 500 participants from Padang Besar.
In Kedah, the participants will cover the areas of Jitra, Alor Setar, Sungai Petani before heading to Penang on Thursday.

ALOR SETAR – The Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) will act more aggressively to win the hearts of young voters in an effort to retain and regain the parliamentary and state seats in the upcoming General Election (GE).
State BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said it was necessary to focus on the young voters aged 30 years and below, based on experience from the GE12 when BN failed to form a government.
“We are aware that in the last election the third and fourth channels (young voters age category) were not in favour of the BN, so our focus must now be on them.
“As such the component parties must do something to reach out to young voters through a variety of programmes. The government is also currently organising activities involving youths and we believe we will succeed,” he said.
He said this to reporters after chairing a BN working committee meeting at Bangunan Tunku here today which was also attended by Kedah BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

Meanwhile, Kedah Islamic Religious Department (Jaik) director Datuk Zahari Ismail said the contributions to SAR in the state since 2010 impacted greatly on the schools. – BERNAMA
LANGKAWI – The Menteri Besar of Kedah today warned the people to be wary of so-called promises by certain quarters in their bid to wrest the state from Barisan Nasional (BN).
Datuk Seri Ahmad Basha Md Hanipah cited new parties such as Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia which had been making many promises claiming they were better and more able to bring development to the people.
“We have a government and a great leader; BN has brought many changes,” he said at the launch by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak of the National Grade System rural electrification project at Pulau Tuba here today.
He said the people should appreciate the Prime Minister’s recognition of Kedah as the ‘heart’ of UMNO, “which is not a light responsibility to carry”.
“As the heart of UMNO, we must look ahead; the BN government always fulfills its promises and we have been highly acknowledged by the prime minister who had made sure that the whole of Kedah progresses.
“It is our duty as the people of Kedah to repay that kindness and show our gratitude,” said the MB. – BERNAMA
SUNGAI PETANI – The Kedah state government will take drastic measures to clean up areas known to have various social problems, including drugs, especially at the Paya Nahu People’s Housing Scheme, near here.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the main focus would be to wipe out the drug menace, illegal electricity and water connections.
“We will conduct a check and review the list of owners since there are houses that are empty and there are houses where tenants are staying illegally. We will work closely with Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Syarikat Air Darul Aman to overcome the problem of illegal connections,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters here today after visiting a four-year-old girl who was hospitalised at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital after being brutally abused by her mother’s boyfriend at the People’s Housing Project in Paya Nahu Flat 2.
Ahmad Bashah also visited the Paya Nahu flats where police discovered the decomposing body of the abused girl’s two-year-old brother, who was wrapped in a blanket and stuffed inside a cooler box at a three-bedroom flat unit where the 34-year-old boyfriend of the siblings’ mother lived.
The body was discovered after police checked on the house following a domestic quarrel complaint.
It was reported that initial investigations showed that the boy had died on Nov 9 and both the 26-year-old mother and her boyfriend were remanded for seven days for further investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – BERNAMA

ALOR SETAR – The statement by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claiming that Barisan Nasional (BN) will fall in Kedah in the coming general election is merely wishful thinking or ‘angan-angan Mat Jenin’.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the statement was merely aimed at wooing the people’s support for the leadership of the new party in general.
“That is his (Muhyiddin’s) political game…but he does not realise that he himself will lose,” he said after officiating the Online Networking Entrepreneurs (ONE) Carnival organised by the Companies Commission of Malaysia, here today.
In a statement to a local newspaper, Muhyiddin claimed that the Kedah BN would fall in the coming general election because of the public sentiment after the Kedah menteri besar was replaced early this year.
He claimed that after Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir relinquished the post of Kedah Menteri Besar, BN must be toppled as the people purportedly perceived Ahmad Bashah as not having the calibre of Mukhriz.
The UMNO state liaison chairman said the people in the state were wise in choosing the party to lead the government and did not want to be cheated twice after being ruled by the opposition in the 12th general election previously.
He pointed out that UMNO and BN were not afraid of the statement and instead continued to work hard to ensure that the party machinery was ready to face the poll besides having a secret weapon to be used during the campaign later.
“They (PPBM) can say what they like…because I’m confident the people of Kedah are smart in making an evaluation as they do not want to suffer again. I’m confident the people will defend UMNO and the BN to continue to rule the state,” he added. – BERNAMA
