KUALA LUMPUR – In the wake of the dissemination of all kinds of news in the run-up to the 14th General Election, pilgrims fund Tabung Haji has reminded its staff to verify all information received before distributing it.
Sources said the TH management wants its employees to always maintain integrity and ensure that their conduct did not inconvenience or harm the people or smear the name of the institution.
They said the management had advised all staff and the public to take a positive lesson from the phenomenon of fake news and be aware of its dangers.
The staff had been advised to weigh all information received and consider what they could do to prevent the dissemination of inaccurate information, according to the sources which quoted a message from the TH management to staff.
The management reminded the staff of past incidents when depositors and TH had been the victims of fake news as a result of accusations that the financial position of the organisation was not strong, said the sources.
They said that as a result of the fake news, more than 3,000 TH depositors lost their turn to perform the Haj when they closed their accounts with TH upon being influenced by the fake news.
The TH management, they said, practised good governance and was a Syariah-compliant Islamic organisation.
The fake news was created by irresponsible people with bad intentions and, at times, with a political motive, they added. – BERNAMA
