KUALA LUMPUR – High-flying T-Team’s fine run in the Premier League came crashing down when they were only able to carve out a 1-1 draw against Penang at the City Stadium, George Town last night.
However, the result did not affect their position as the top team in the league. They have 33 points after 14 matches, two more than nearest rival Kedah who secured three full points at home tonight.
In the action in George Town, Penang’s Brazilian import Hilton Mauro Moreira had put the hosts ahead in the 23rd minute from a shot taken 25 metres from the goal.
T-Team levelled the score when they were awarded a penalty eight minutes later which was easily converted by their Uzbekistan import, Farhod Tadjiev.
Earlier, Penang had to play with 10 men when Farid Ramli was shown the red card by the referee after he was said to have slapped T-Team’s Josip Milardovic.
Kedah overtook Penang for second spot in the table after edging Kuantan FA 3-2 at Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.
The Red Eagles’ goals were netted Mohd Syafiq Ahmad (13th, 16th) and Liridon Krasniqi (57th) while Mohd Zamri Hassan and Fabrice Noel replied for the visitors in the 73rd and 79th minutes respectively.
Kuantan FA had to play with 10 men towards the end of the match after Muszaki Abu Bakar picked up a second yellow card.
Also securing three points were Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) who edged SPA Putrajaya FC 1-0 at the Pasir Gudang Stadium, Johor Baharu with the solitary goal provided by Mohd Irfan Fazail in the 85th minute.
Elsewhere, at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi, Negeri Sembilan known as NS Matrix this season had to rise up twice to snatch a 2-2 draw against UiTM FC 2-2.
A penalty converted by Dao Bakary in the 20th minute followed by a goal by Abdi Kasim Sadallah five minutes later had put the visitors in a comfortable lead but Francis Forkey Doe and Rezal Zambery Yahya ensured the hosts went home with a point with goals in the 80th and 84th minutes.
At the Hang Jebat Stadium, Melaka, DRB Hicom FC upset Sabah 2-1 with their goals contributed by Ivan Babic (8th) and Muhammad Fakhrul Aiman Sidid (33rd)before El Hadji Diouf slammed home a penalty awarded to the hosts in the 63rd minute.
