MELAKA – Syria and China shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Hang Jebat Stadium in a third round 2018 World Cup Qualifying Group A match here tonight.
Syria playing in Melaka on a home away from home match, started off in fine style by taking the lead through Mahmoud Al Mawas’ spot kick in the 12th minute but China cancelled the advantage when Gao Lin converted a spot kick in the 68th minute.
The goal spurred China to mount a series of attacks and a lapse in concentration by the Syrian defence saw China take the lead in the 75th minute through Wu Xi.
However, China’s joy was shortlived when Ahmad Al-Saleh scored the equaliser late into injury time (94th min) to deny their opponents all three points.
Syria will next meet South Korea on Aug 31 while China face Uzbekistan on the same date. – BERNAMA
