DAMASCUS – Syria does not fear the threats of military strike by the US, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday, citing a close aide of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Bouthaina Shabaan, the political and media adviser to Bashar told the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV, the threats were designed to apply more pressure on Syria and to make more gain from the war.
She stressed that consultations among Syria’s allies were ongoing and they ‘’would not leave things to go Washington’s way.
Her strong remarks came as the US is banging the drums of war on Syria over allegations of a chemical attack on rebels in eastern Ghouta.
Rebels in Douma district, eastern Ghouta said the Syrian army used chlorine gas in an attack on Saturday, killing many people.
The Syrian government had denied the allegations and said the rebels fabricated the chemical attack to provide a pretext for the US and its western allies to launch a military strike on Syria.
Bouthaina described the US threats as a psychological warfare adding the Syrian army’s victory in eastern Ghouta was a turning point of the war.
She said the oucome of the war went against the western approach in terms of the emergence of the Russian, Syrian and Hezbollah alliance, calling it the “alliance of the future.”
“”The “axis of resistance,” (Iran, Hezbollah) has dealt with the US threats. Syria’s victory will change the map of the region and the world,” she said, adding that Israel is trying to prolong the war.
She accused Israel of being the main ignitor of the war, adding Syria and Russia have made all preparation after the Israeli strike on the T-4 Air Base two days ago. – BERNAMA
