PETALING JAYA: Syed Azmi AbhalÂshi, the man behind the controversial “I Want To Touch A Dog†event, has admitted his mistake and will be more careful when organising programmes in future, said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
Its director-general Datuk Haji Othman Mustapha, in a statement by Jakim, said the department’s officers met Syed Azmi yesterday at the Mines Hotel in Seri Kembangan.
The meeting was also attended by five Syariah experts and two representatives from the Selangor State Islamic Council.
“The Syariah experts advised the organiser not to hold similar programmes that could offend the sensitivities of Muslims in the country.
“The organiser admitted his mistake, accepted our advice and will be more careful when organising any events in future,†said Othman in the statement.
Jakim also said it hoped that the issue would not be prolonged or brought up any more.
Syed Azmi had said that he received “severe death threats†after the Oct 18 event held at Central Park in Bandar Utama.-The Star
