Super League: Pahang Stay In The Lead

KUALA LUMPUR – Pahang maintained their lead in the Super League after defeating Sarawak 3-1 at the Darul Makmur Stadium, Kuantan, tonight.

This is their 10th win out of 15 matches this season and now have 33 points, five points more that nearest rivals Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

Zesh Rehman opened scoring for The Elephants in the 22nd minute followed by goals by Dickson Nwakaeme (70th) and Azammuddin Mohd Akil (79th) while Sarawak’s consolation goal was netted by Joseph Kalang Tie in the 64th minute.

At the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi, Seremban, Felda United FC mauled bottom-placed Armed Forces 4-0.

National striker Indra Putra Mahayuddin was the hero for The Fighters producing a hattrick with his goals coming in the 66th minute (penalty), 82nd and 86th while Zah Rahan Krangar netted their fourth in the 87th minute.

Meanwhile, Lions XII of Singapore overtook Police for sixth spot after edging Perak 2-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium in the city-state.

But it was Perak who first went ahead when their South Korean import Namkung Woong nodded home a cross early but goals by Muhammad Hafiz Abu Sujad (45th) and Safuwan Baharudin (53rd) saw them going home empty-handed.

At the Selayang Stadium, Terengganu defeated minnows Sime Darby FC 2-0.

Ashari Samsudin scored boths goals for the Turtles, in the 26th and 80th minutes respectively.

Kelantan who are now guided by temporary coach Zahasmi Ismail ended their losing streak by beating Police 3-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium.

The Red Warriors’ goals were netted by Austin Amutu (4th), Jonathan McKain in added time of the first half and Erwin Carrillo (66th) while Faizal Abu Bakar replied for Police in the 73rd minute.

The match between JDT and Selangor which was to be played at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium, Larkin tonight has been postponed to July 13 as the Southern Tigers are scheduled to play a friendly against German side Borussia Dortmund tomorrow (July 9). – BERNAMA
