JOHOR BAHRU – Sunway Iskandar XPark, an extreme sports site to be built in Iskandar Puteri, here, is believed to be capable of drawing more domestic and foreign tourists to Johor, especially fans of extreme sports.
State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the Sunway Iskandar XPark would be a new attraction in the state, while there were already the existing theme parks for recreation and family enjoyment.
“With the establishment of the extreme sports park of international standard, Johor will be a major destination most suitable for holding international-level events, based on the Johor Tourism Master Plan which wants the state to be a high-value tourism destination by 2023,” he said after performing the ground-breaking for the park site.
The Sunway Iskandar XPark, expected to be operational by the end of next year, is 12.8 hectares in size with RM20 million worth of investment for the first phase.
Tee said the developer, Sunway Iskandar had made an apt decision to invest in the Iskandar Malaysia region, seen as the most successful economic development corridor in Malaysia.
He said the project was in line with the direction of Iskandar Malaysia as a metropolis of international standard.
Tee said the extreme sports park would offer various extreme sport activities like motoring, cycling and riding the rugged landscape on all-terrain vehicles, rock climbing and water sports.
It will also have facilities for futsal and badminton, and a camping site. – BERNAMA
