SHAH ALAM – Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the decision of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on the appointment of a new Selangor Menteri Besar should be accepted by all parties.

He said it was not appropriate for any party to oppose the decision as it was the Sultan’s wisdom.

Nor Omar was commenting on the appointment of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali as the 15th Menteri Besar of Selangor, effective today, after the swearing-in ceremony at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.

Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad hoped all parties would focus on giving the best services to the people of Selangor.

Apart from Mohamed Azmin, Iskandar who is the state assemblyman for Cempaka and Sijangkang state assemblyman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi were among the names submitted to the Sultan for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar.

Meanwhile, Selangor PAS secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman said Selangor PAS supports the Sultan’s decision and PAS Selangor would lend Mohamed Azmin the cooperation to improve the welfare of the people.

Selangor MIC Youth chief V. Mugilan hoped Azmin would be prepared to work with all parties for the benefit of all strata of the community in the state.

In welcoming the appointment, Gerakan vice-president Datuk A.Kohilan Pillay said Azmin now has a huge task of resolving the rising dengue cases in Selangor which is a huge concern for the residents.

People’s Progressive Party president Tan Sri M. Kayveas hoped Azmin would continue the good work by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and to implement them well for the people.

Meanwhile, political analysts opined that in the interest of all Selangor residents, the time has come for PKR to put a stop to the Kajang Move strategy which began early this year.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Faculty of Social Science and Humanities lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Fuad Mat Jali said PKR would face the wrath of the people if it insisted on appointing its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as president.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) geostrategist, Dr Azmi Hassan said the appointment of Mohamed Azmin, a Singapore-born, would heal the relation in the opposition coalition, especially between PKR and PAS.

Universiti Putra Malaysia Department of Nationhood and Civilisation dean, Assoc Prof Dr Ahmad Tarmizi Talib said PKR should be rational in trusting the Sultan over his choice of the new menteri besar.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) accepts the appointment of Azmin Ali as the new Selangor Menteri Besar.

“The DAP CEC has instructed all 15 DAP assemblymen to support Azmin Ali as the new Menteri Besar,” he said. – Bernama
