in Latest

JOHOR BAHRU – The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has suggested an expansion of the scope of responsibility of the Royal Johor Military Force (JMF) to provide comprehensive services to the public in the state.

According to him, JMF’s responsibilities could be widened from the current guarding of the palace grounds, to monitoring all state administrative areas such as Kota Iskandar and district offices.

“Wouldn’t it be better if we placed the responsibility of safeguarding our region to members of our own security, rather than private companies hiring foreign workers?

“I hope the menteri besar (Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin) can evaluate this matter,” he said during the opening ceremony of a new camp for JMF troops here today.

Also present at the event were Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim.

Sultan Ibrahim also expressed appreciation to current leaders of the federal and state governments, who gave more attention to the JMF by approving requests for additional personnel and appropriate salary schemes for its personnel.

“I urge the (state) government to continue to help the JMF troops in order to streamline its organisation and management, as well as increase the number of personnel, so that they can provide more effective services to the state and society” he said.

Sultan Ibrahim also reminded the JMF troops to maintain a high level of discipline at all times and places, and continue to enhance their military skills, have high religious knowledge and practise a holistic Islamic lifestyle.

“Instill high level of loyalty and camaraderie within the team, as well as maintain goodwill ties with one another,” he said.

The building of the new JMF camp on a 51.2-acre land has been divided into several phases, and its construction began in July 2012.

In addition to 328 residential units for officers and JMF personnel, there are also administrative offices, mosque, community hall and sports facilities on the site.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was also present at the event. – BERNAMA
