BATU PAHAT – The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar said graduates in the state should not be overly choosy about finding work to the point of preferring to be jobless and scrounging on their families.

Sultan Ibrahim, who is also Universiti Tun Hussein (UTHM) Chancellor reminded them not to be distracted by the degrees they obtained but to endeavour to earn lawful income.

“Don’t be distracted by the degrees you have as they are worthless if you fail to get a job.

“Life has many challenges and there is no short cut to success, we must start from the bottom by looking for working experience, boosting skills and capability,” he said at the 16th UTHM convocation near here, today.

He said everyone must vie to find job opportunities and to strive for success and should not abuse their knowledge and capability by cheating and stealing.

Sultan Ibrahim also urged graduates not to be arrogant with their knowledge or advantage but to emulate the padi which bowed lower the heavier it became.

“I feel proud when informed that UTHM is one of the selected universities for industries whereby its graduates have the edge to be hired,” he said.

During the ceremony, he also conferred a Doctorate Degree in Philpsophy (Property Management and Facility) to the Governor of Southern Celebes, Indonesia, Dr. Syahrul Yasin Limpa.
