KUANTAN – The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah has been proclaimed first Chancellor of Kolej Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah, (KUIPSAS) after it was upgraded to university college status in October.
The inauguration of Sultan Ahmad Shah as chancellor was held at KUIPSAS here today, where the Sultanah of Pahang, Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom was also present.
The couple was accompanied by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
KUIPSAS was formerly known as Kolej Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah.
In his speech during the ceremony, Sultan Ahmad Shah said he was proud of the outstanding achievements of the institution which was established in 1996, thanks to the vision of scholars in the state.
“This development will give greater opportunities to the people of Pahang in particular, and Malaysians in general, where they will now be able to pursue their diplomas, as well as from Bachelor’s degrees to PhDs,” he said.
Sultan Ahmad Shah also expressed confidence that KUIPSAS would be upgraded to full university status in the future, and the education offered at the university college would bring positive impact to Pahang.
He hoped KUIPSAS could become an educational institution which offered study programmes that integrated both secular and religious studies. – BERNAMA
