KUCHING – Budding national sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan again bettered the Sukma
record in the 200m event by clocking 21.03 seconds in the final at Sarawak Stadium
Yesterday, the athlete aged 18 from Melaka broke the 14-year-old record held
by former national runner, Nazmizan Mohammed from Terengganu with a time of
21.14s in the semi finals.
Nazmizan clocked 21.33s at the Sukma 2002 in Sabah.
Meanwhile, Selangor’s Muhammad Aqil Yasmi created an upset when he outran
favourites Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap from Melaka and host Sarawak’s Jonathan
Nyepa to claim the silver medal with a time of 21.31s.
Jonathan was forced to concede and accept the bronze after finishing at
21.34s, while Badrul Hisyam could only manage fourth place with 21.56s.
