MELAKA – Year six pupil of Ayer Keroh Religious Primary School, Ahmad Asraf Azran Azraie was so excited that he could not sleep when told he would be reciting Quran verses before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
Ahmad Asraf, 12, undertook the recital at the opening of the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (Jaim) Tanjung Minyak 2 Religious Primary School in Tanjung Minyak here yesterday which was officiated by His Majesty.
“I get to know I was selected to do the Quran recital for His Majesty from my teacher on Wednesday and started to train immediately,” he told Bernama here.
The second of six siblings said he felt proud and blessed to have been chosen to recite the Quran before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and described it as an unforgetable experience.
Asked on his ambition, Ahmad Asraf said his dream was to become an astronaut.
JAIM Tanjung Minyak 2 Religious Primary School teacher Shahpuzaimi Puteh said he was initially nervous when Sultan Muhammad V visited his class but His Majesty’s friendliness gradually put everyone at ease.
“Indeed the teachers and I could not sleep well because this is the first in history (Seri Paduka’s visit). Alhamdulillah all went smoothly,” he said.
He hoped His Majesty’s visit would inspire all his students to continue to excel and become the generation that can contribute to the country in future.
Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V is currently on a three-day state visit to Melaka until tomorrow and this is his first visit to the state since he ascended the throne as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 13 last year. – BERNAMA
