KUBANG PASU – A skills institution student here was booked by police when they failed to find any record of ownership of the motorcycle he was riding, during an integrated operation at Jitra Toll Plaza (southbound), last night.
District police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said the 20-year-old student also could not produce his identity card and driving licence when requested.
“We seized the motorcycle which he said he had borrowed from his uncle. But we later released the student as his urine tested negative for drugs,” he said here today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Ismail said six local men aged between 19 and 40, were found positive for syabu in the 10.30 pm operation.
“They were detained under the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 (Amendment 1998) and brought to the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) office for further action,” he said.
He said 56 traffic summonses were issued for expired road tax, driving without licence, and unauthorised vehicle modification.
Twenty-eight lorry, express bus and taxi drivers were booked by the northern region Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) for offences ranging from driving without a second bus driver, operating without a computerised ticket printer, without a tour guide, and driving without the relevant permit. – BERNAMA
