KUALA LUMPUR – Strong winds and rough seas in the waters of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, East Johor, Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang, Palawan, Bunguran, Samui, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan are expected to continue until Wednesday (24 Dec).
A statement issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department said strong winds with speeds of up 60km/h and waves as high as 5.5m metres would be dangerous for beach activities, including fishing, and ferry services.
In addition, the coastal areas of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and East Johor would also be vulnerable to a rise in sea level during the same period.
Meanwhile, Medical Relief Society (Mercy) Malaysia in a statement said it had deployed staff to Kelantan and Terengganu since Thursday, following the worsening flood situation in the east coast of the peninsula.
The statement said Mercy Malaysia would also be distributing hygiene kits, food and bottled water, and, if required, extend medical assistance to the victims.
“Mercy Malaysia is also prepared to assist Pahang should the need arises,” said the statement. – BERNAMA
