ALOR SETAR – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah today called on irresponsible parties to stop spreading the malicious lie that money was given to several state UMNO leaders to support him.
He said a police report had already been lodged by someone accused of making the allegation for the authorities to investigate and take action against those who spread the lie.
The menteri besar said bribery was not a culture in UMNO to gain the support of grassroots leaders.
Ahmad Bashah was asked by reporters to comment on claims that have gone viral on the social media that the Kedah UMNO division chiefs and wing heads were bribed with money in return for rejecting the leadership of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir as menteri besar.
“I urge that young people who are the future state and national leaders to stop the slander immediately…it can destroy everything.
“The political crisis in this state has been resolved and a new menteri besar has been chosen. What is important is for us to move forward and fulfil the promises made by UMNO in the last general election,” he said when met at his office, here.
Ahmad Bashah, who is also the Kedah Umno liaison deputy chairman, said he would meet with all the state government officials to be briefed on the projects and programmes that were being and would be implemented.
“I want to listen on all matters to enable me to study them and make the decisions. As for Discover Kedah 2016, for example, we will continue and perhaps also improve on this tourism programme.
“With regard to a racing circuit for the young, I will discuss with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to expedite the project to meet their need.”
He said he would continue the plans made by Mukhriz, besides drawing up new ones for the benefit of the people.
Earlier, Ahmad Bashah arrived at the Kedah menteri besar’s office at Wisma Darul Aman at 7.50 am and clocked in for work at 7.59 am. – BERNAMA
