MELAKA – The state governments must play a role in ensuring that the local authorities (PBT) implement the green policy in their respective jurisdictions, said deputy minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
She said the move was crucial because the green policy, among other things, ensured that the environment was protected and sustainable development could provide comfortable surroundings to the residents.
“This (ensuring that the PBT implements the green policy) is not merely the responsibility of the federal government through the ministry alone, but the efforts and strong support of the state government will also drive this initiative.
“The state government must plan and think of the direction placed (on the PBT) to provide sustainable comfort and prosperity to the residents,” she told a media conference, here today.
Earlier, she attended the Opening Ceremony of the 15th International Melaka Twin City Convention by Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, which was attended by more than 300 participants from 16 countries including Japan, India and Thailand. – BERNAMA
