KUALA LUMPUR – The Standard Chartered KL Marathon (SCKLM) will be held on its original date of Oct 4.
“Many of the runners have voiced out their fear and thought if the event would be held on Oct 10. Based on public interest, the decision was made between the organiser and Youth and Sports Minister (Khairy Jamaluddin).
“Most of them (marathon runners) are happy when we decided to revert the event back on Oct 4,” SCKLM project director and also Dirigo Events director, Rainer Biemans, told reporters after attending the launch of the event’s official merchandise with Adidas, here today.
Also present was Brand Activation of Adidas Malaysia senior manager David Wong and Brand Communication and Sports Marketing manager Tan Zhi Vern.
On July 13, Youth and Sports Ministry issued a press release announcing that SCKLM would be turned into the flagship event of the National Sports Day and be moved from Oct 4 to 10.
Biemans noted that it would be a good news for them as there would be many events happening on Oct 10.
“There are many events happening on Oct 10 as well, but we are happy it is back to initial date, which is on Sunday.
“We need to close the road for a long time and it makes more sense to have a long distance running event on Sunday. We also need to take into consideration that we are running in the city,” said Biemans.
As the official apparel partner, Adidas today launched the Standard Chartered KL Marathon licensed merchandise to celebrate the momentous collaboration.
The licensed merchandise range includes the Fall/Winter Supernova Glide Boost running shoes series, the ClimaLite top for men and women, limited edition cap and water bottle.
The official merchandise are available at Adidas sports and performance outlets nationwide and also at a special booth will be set up during the event. – BERNAMA
