SPRM Will Take Action Against Guan Eng

in Latest/Politics

GEORGE TOWN – Suruhajaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) has decided to take action against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for not apologising over an alleged slanderous remark made over the arrest of state executive council member Phee Boon Poh.

Lim had described the recent arrest of Phee, the state Environment Committee chairman, over the illegal carbon filter factory issue in Sungai Lembu, as “illegal”.

In a statement today, the SPRM said its management had unanimously decided to refer the matter to Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali for the next course of action.

“We have given him (Lim) time to apologise and he refused to do so.

“As such, we will raise our decision with the Attorney-General for the next course of action under the existing laws,” the statement read.

The SPRM also stressed that while it respected the rights of all quarters to criticise the agency, it would not compromise if the criticisms were slanderous in nature.

“This is especially so it is involved investigations into any of the cases we are investigating, with the aim to affect our image and reputation.

“We do not have interest in any of our investigations and will investigate any case without fear of favour, irrespective of one’ position and political ideology.” it added. – NST
