KUALA LUMPUR – An accident involving the national para cycling squad members has not broken their spirit in targeting at least 10 gold medals at the Ninth ASEAN Para Games.
Team Manager, Mohd Asri Abdul Mubin said six gold medals were targeted in the track event and four on highway events.
“They have a high spirit of camaraderie in the team and this spirit gives them the strength to compete. They train together and their spirit is not broken despite an untoward incident taking place.
“The decision on whether our two para athletes will compete or not is not finalised. Must wait for the results from the medical experts,”he said at the ASEAN Para ‘We Are Champions’ media conference here yesterday.
In incident which took place at 10.45 am, a four-wheel-drive vehicle ploughed into chief coach Mohd Johari Nayan, Muhammad Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, Mohd Hairul Hazwan Wahab and two ‘pilot riders’, namely, Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal and Muhamad Nur Syafiq Suhaimy at KM12.6 of the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Highway (Latar).
