SHAH ALAM – The opposition’s attempt to spin the issue of a senior civil servant in Perlis who was urged to be sacked for criticising the government is a foolish act , said UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
He also slammed the opposition for hurling baseless accusations about the government after just reading the press statement issued by Perlis UMNO Youth.
“What Perlis UMNO Youth meant was to impose (disciplinary) action on those found guilty of slandering and spread false information… So, don’t just read the headline and be an empty can. Go into the details,” he told reporters after launching the Sime Darby Property Berhad’s TN50 Aspirations here today.
Yesterday, Perlis UMNO Youth had lodged a report urging the police to investigate and take action against the senior government officer for allegedly uploading and sharing articles that were anti-government on his Facebook account.
However, the opposition allegedly accused UMNO Youth for trying to dismiss anti-government civil servants to create employment opportunities for young people.
According to Khairy, members of the public including public servants who were found to have disseminated false information and defamed any party may be subjected to action as provided in the law.
He explained that abusing social media to hurl lies could be investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“In fact, if the offenders are civil servants, the individuals may be subjected to the disciplinary action in accordance to the General Orders of the Civil Service,” he added. – BERNAMA
