ALOR GAJAH – The government is setting up a special laboratory to gather information and conduct opinion surveys to further improve the National Service Training programme (PLKN) module, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said today.
The move, he said, was in tandem with the national youth transformation plan to expand the role of youths through the 2015 Budget to enhance the status and role of PLKN which had produced more than 800,000 trainees since 2004.
He said the initiative, which had been agreed to by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, would be headed by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu).
“The target group for this survey will involve various races and levels of the society nationwide,” he told reporters after closing the PLKN training Group 3 Series Siri 11/2014 at the Putra Putri Camp here today.
Also present were National Service Training Council (MLKN) chairman Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid and National Service Training Department Director-General Datuk Mohmed Asri Yusof.
In another development, Abdul Rahim advised PLKN trainees to apply the knowledge they acquired during training to be a better person and avoid being influenced by terrorist groups, like the so-called Islamic State militant group. – BERNAMA
