TEMERLOH: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will take firm action against vehicle drivers and owners found contravening the road regulations, including overloading.
Its chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the measure was taken as many overloaded vehicles were found to be the cause of fatal accidents among road users.
“If we take action, don’t get angry or write letters to any parties to get an exemption because we will not compromise.
“Just like yesterday’s case (fatal accident involving a policeman who was struck by metal loops) which was very sad because it happened not due to negligence but others’ greediness in carrying overloaded goods that does not comply with the law,” he told reporters after presenting phase three flood aid at Sekolah Menengah Agama (SMA) Al-Wusto here today.
In the incident a policeman from the Bera District Police Headquarters Special Branch was killed and another one injured after their vehicle rammed into metal loops that fell on the road at Km 153.8, East Coast Expressway heading to Kuantan.
Twelve two-ton metal loops fell after the side iron wall of the trailer broke believed to be caused by overloading.–BERNAMA
