KUALA LUMPUR: South China beat Pahang 3-1 in a Group G match of the AFC Cup played at Mongkok Stadium in Hong Kong, last night.
The win strengthened South China’s position as group leaders with 12 points after four matches while Pahang are in second spot with four points.
The win was the fourth for the Hong Kong side while the loss was the seocnd for Pahang.
In the match broadcast live by a pay television channel, Chan Siu Kwan put South China in front as early as the 10th minute after a melee in front of the Pahang goal.
After the break, South China continued their assault on the Pahang goal and were rewarded when Lo Kong Wai doubled the score in the 56th minute.
Three minutes later, Hong Kong’s naturalised player Jonathan Jack deceived the Pahang defence to beat Pahang goalkeeper Khairul Azhan Mohd Khalid and put South China 3-0.
Pahang pulled one goal back when Dickson Nwakaeme scored in the 62nd minute after connecting a cross from Matias Conti.
In another group G match, Global FC (Philippines) beat Yadanarbon FC (Myanmar) 4-1 at Philippine Sports Stadium in Manila.
Pahang will host Yadanarbon FC at Darul Makmur Stadium, Kuantan while South China will host Global FC at Mongkok Stadium on April 29.
