KUALA LUMPUR – The amount of solid waste disposed off in the city during the month of Ramadan has increased by 25 per cent or 3,000 tonnes daily from the normal 2,500 tonnes, according to Alam Flora Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zain Hassan.

He said food waste and untouched food, including those from Ramadan bazaars, were the largest contributors to the increase.

“Everytime during the fasting month, we see a lot of food being wasted. The amount of solid waste disposed off in the city alone has increased by 400 tonnes daily,” he told reporters after attending the Imarah Ramadan With Alam Flora programme here yesterday.
