GEORGETOWN – The widow of businessman Syed Amen Jaizul Abidin who was shot dead yesterday received funeral benefit of RM1,500 from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) today.
State Socso manager Shaharuddin Waled said Masita Abu Bakar, 46, was eligible to receive the benefit as her husband had contributed to the Socso from 1998 to 2002 while working at a factory in Perai.
“After this, we will calculate the amount of pension payable to his (Syed Amen) next of kin,” he told a press conference here today.
Syed Amen, 46, was reported to have been shot dead at close range in front of high-powered motorcycle shop in Jalan Datuk Keramat here at 3.30 am yesterday.
Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Pembela Nasib Melayu Malaysia (Gerakan Merah) called on the police to carry out thorough investigation into the case.
Its president, Mohd Ali Baharom, said they believed that an assassin was involved in case as the victim had been vocal in defending the rights of the Malays in Penang. – BERNAMA
