GEORGE TOWN – Six people, including a teenager were detained to facilitate investigations into last night’s incident in which a motorcyclist fired three shots in the direction of a house belonging to a priest in Jalan Satu, Air Itam here last night.
The suspects aged between 14 and 55 were nabbed in separate incidents in the Air Itam and Datuk Keramat areas here.
In a statement today, Northeast District police chief SAC Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the suspects were remanded for a week to facilitate investigations.
He said the case was investigated for attempted murder.
In the incident about 9.50pm, the 50-year-old victim who is a priest at a temple was washing the compound of his double-storey terrace house compound when a motorcyclist arrkived and fired the shots.
However, the shots missed hitting the priest who ran into the house and called the police. At the time, the priest’s wife and three children were in the house.
Based on police investigations, the incident is believed to be linked to a resident suspecting the victim of siphoning temple collections. – BERNAMA
