Single Mother Charged With Making False Police Report

SHAH ALAM – A single mother pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of making a false police report last year.

Maya Ahmad Fuaad, 36, made the plea after the charge was read out to her by a court interpreter before Magistrate P. Sarulatha.

The woman was charged with committing the offence at the Kota Damansara police station near here on June 30 last year.

The charge, under Section 182 of the Penal Code provides an imprisonment for up to six months, or fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, Maya had lodged a false police report to Corporal Hazarul Shahkifly Setia with the intention of calling upon the police to take action against K. Mathurai Veeran.

It is learnt that Mathurai Veeran is the personal driver to the accused’s former father-in-law.

Prosecuting officer, ASP Ghanthi Nathan urged the court to set bail at RM2,000 with one surety however, lawyer Eliena Rashid, representing the accused requested the bail be reduced to RM500 saying that her client had given her full cooperation throughout the investigation.

The court set bail at RM2,000 in one surety and fixed May 17 for mention. – BERNAMA
