SIMON Cowell has admitted Zayn Malik needs to figure things out after quitting boy band One Direction.
The 22-year-old singer left the group last month during the group’s tour and his X Factor boss has had his say on the star’s solo career, the band’s spat with his collaborator Naughty Boy and One Direction’s future.
Talking about Zayn on the red carpet at the press launch for Britain’s Got Talent in London today, Simon said: “He’s a fantastic singer. He’s got to get his head together a little bit, he needs some time on his own, as he said to be a normal 22-year-old, which he’s gonna have.
“I’ve always said to all of them, ‘The future is bright for all of you, depending on what you want to do’. We’ve always hoped that One Direction would stay together for a long time and my hunch is it still will.”
Simon admitted that he didn’t expect the Midnight Memories band to loose a member so quickly – five years after they formed on the talent show – but he has high hopes they will continue to perform as a four-some.
He said: “I wasn’t expecting it to happen so quickly. You just have to deal with it. As long as the boys want it and I think they do, they will continue to be successful. They’ve not got over it but they’ve got used to it.”
The music mogul also addressed rumours Zayn’s band mates are no longer pals with him following Louis Tomlinson’s row with Naughty Boy on Twitter over “winding up” One Direction fans.
The super producer, who uploaded and later deleted a solo demo recorded by Zayn, re-tweeted a video from a fan relating to their collaboration ‘Zaughty’ about how he had saved the singer from being in a boy band.
Simon said: “You can’t work together for this long if you’re not friends. [That was just] a little spat that happened, people were getting a bit emotional.
He added: “The only thing that matters is that the boys are happy, everyone is in a different place at the moment.” – Mirror
