SIMON Cowell was there with a shoulder to cry on when his pal Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s split from husband Jean-Bernard reduced her to tears during X Factor filming last year.
Si’s brother Tony has revealed that talent show judge Chez, 32, “just wasn’t herself†throughout the series. She had looked “thin and frail, and appeared preoccupied and distant at timesâ€.
Writing in Best mag, Tony reveals: “Despite her veneer, the frequent tears showed something was hurting. Chatting to her backstage often proved difficult.â€
Cheryl and Simon, 56, have been pals for more than a decade and Tony says his brother has been there for her. He says: “He told me recently that Cheryl had become ‘one of his closest friends’. Simon will be there to offer advice and help her through the coming months if needed, and I know he was in contact with her while on holiday.â€
Tony questions whether entrepreneur JB could cope with his wife’s long hours, saying: “The X Factor workload is horrendous. Cheryl and all the judges work crazy hours for the whole three months of live shows.
“It’s a huge challenge, and I’m not sure JB realised the scale of that commitment. Cheryl takes her job extremely seriously. She never stops working, and often calls Simon late at night. This, too, may have become an issue.â€
Cheryl’s celeb status may also have been a factor in the split. Tony says: “JB may have found it difficult being suddenly thrust into the celebrity spotlight. I’m not sure he realised just how popular Cheryl is in the UK.â€
It was revealed yesterday that Cheryl got tearful at BFF’s Kimberley Walsh’s hen do. Let’s hope she pops a hankee in her handbag when she’s a bridesmaid at Kimbo’s wedding. – Daily Mirror
