KUALA LUMPUR – Wanita UMNO chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will not offer herself to contest in any seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
However, Shahrizat said she would consider the matter if she was chosen as a candidate by UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“For me, my main task and responsibility is to ensure the Barisan Nasional (BN) Wanita machinery is ready because this is my top priority.
“Not being a candidate is not my priority even though we regularly hold discussions with the prime minister. What’s important is that we can deliver a strong and effective machinery that brings a huge victory to the BN,” she said.
She said this after attending a tahlil ceremony and yasin recital for the former Wanita UMNO permanent chairman Tan Sri Napsiah Omar at Ar-Rahman Surau, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.
The recipient of UMNO’s “Melayu Terbilang” (Outstanding Malay) Award 2017 died on Monday of liver cancer.
Touching on the demise of Napsiah, she hoped more UMNO veterans would emulate the values and spirit of her noble political struggles throughout her life. – BERNAMA
